Assessing Educating for Gross National Happiness Applying the Theory of Practice Architectures

Gross National Happiness (GNH) is a central policy, symbolic of Bhutan, which gave rise to Educating for GNH (EGNH). In the school Performance Management System sole instrument used by Ministry Education evaluate performance schools. To test utility in fulfilling intended goals EGNH, two its key subcomponents—the School Self-Assessment and Scorecards—were assessed through lens theory practice architectures. The describes what comprises social practices how they are shaped social, cultural political contexts occur. Content analysis was carried out using Leximancer text-mining software. findings showed that sayings relatings their corresponding cultural-discursive social-political arrangements were not as evident indicators doings material-economic arrangements. also indicated both Self-Assessment’s Scorecards’ focus more on assessing leadership than teaching. authors present several suggestions ensure closer alignment with demonstrate balanced teaching leadership, represent all architectures proportionately. Implications this study should inform policy values Bhutanese methods could be adapted examine educational beyond those Bhutan.
